The Korean War - from June 25, 1950 to cease-fire on July 27, 1953, was a conflict between North Korea and South Korea. Some consider this Cold War-era conflict to have been a proxy war between the United States and its allies, and the Communist powers of the People's Republic of China and the Soviet Union. The war ended, as the Americans deflected the Soviet army and everything was as it used to be between the two countries.

Rocky Marciano was born in Brockton, MA, to an Italian family of shoe manufacturers. After failing in the shoe business, he surprisingly became the heavyweight champion of the world, on September 23, 1952, when he defeated Jersey Joe Walcott, after an amazing record of 49 consecutive professional wins, which will probably never be exceeded. Killed in a tragic small plane crash on August 31, 1969.

Nikita Khrushchev became leader of the Soviet Union after the death of the infamous dictator Josef Stalin. In 1956, he started indirectly criticising Stalin and his methods. He became the Premier of the Soviet Union from 1958 to 1974.
In relations with the West, Khrushchev's tenure was marked by a series of high-stakes crises: the U-2 affair, the building of the Berlin Wall, and the Cuban Missile crisis. At the same time, he was the first Soviet leader to advocate "peaceful coexistence" with the West, and to negotiate with the United States on reducing Cold War tensions.

On April 18, 1958, the Dodgers played their first game in Los Angeles, defeating the San Francisco Giants, 6-5, before 78,672 fans at the Coliseum.
